RISING QUEST
Light seems to rise from beneath the earth and swirl around hillocks and bushes. A cascade of leaves fall from the mountain slopes like a torrential summer rainstorm. Trees dance and ragged clouds weave their way between the upper twigs, leaves and branches.
Many of these works are greatly influenced by the paintings of the old masters. In particular I love to look at the landscapes of Rubens, Rembrandt, and JMW Turner. I combine delicate impasto brushwork with repeated glaze layers to gradually build up form and perception of depth.
